E-JOURNAL
For this Community Service course, we have the opportunity to engage in social actions and chance to help out people who needs care. It is our young generation duty to improve the needs of people who need them. Throughout the whole process, I have learned that the foremost lesson I gain from this activity is that we need to have the initiative and to really care about the people in order to design and do something for them.
Our sites located at Persatuan Pemulihan Orang-Orang Cacat Selangor & Wilayah Persekutuan (PPOC). We are all divided into five groups to focus on the renovation in one of the classroom in PPOC. We allocated our jobs among the five groups and for our group, we are in charge of painting the mural art inside the classroom.
Here are some of the activities progress throughout this whole journey.
(It will be update throughout the whole progress.)

Miss Norji who is our respective lecturer for the Community Service course contact us through WhatsApp today. She informed us that the briefing for our first class will be held at the PPOC Centre on Wednesday, 30.08.2017 at around 11am by our own transportation. We were told to wear appropriately in Taylor's Uni T-shirt and long pants and bring along our camera, note book and measuring tape so we can working on that day.

We reached PPOC Centre at around 11.30am as we went to the wrong way. The brief has been started so we quickly join in the group. Miss Norji explained to us what are the projects that we have to work on for this particular courses and we are told to pick our own group members and task we would like to take part in. I decided to join the Group 1 who has been tasked to paint the Mural Arts in one of the classroom. We were told to get into work and start jotting down all the measurements needed for and pictures were taken for references. As we are doing the Mural Art for the disable people in PPOC Centre, we hope to do something that they like. So, we talked to some of them and ask about what's their preference of colour choice. We hope that we can produce something that they like. After that, Miss Norji brief us and asked us to proposed several ideas on the next class before we leave.

We have several meetings before the presentation day. All the group members did a lot of research and find reference pictures that are related. We proposed a few ideas and present it to our classmates and respective lecturer, Miss Norji in presentation slides form during lecture. After the voting session with the whole class including Miss Norji, we decided to do an scenic kind of Mural Art. Besides that, we were told to produced a sheet of quotation for all the things that we need to buy in order to paint the Mural Art.

After several discussion, we decided to start painting on today. We decided to meet at PPOC Centre around 1pm. Andrea will be in charge of buying all the materials that we need to used for the Mural Art and the others including me will go to the site and do some cleaning first. We started off by removing all the art work from the wall and scrape off all the adhesive tapes on the wall. Then, we separated into a few group and start working on each respective wall. As the wall are stained so some of the wall cannot be covered up nicely, so we painted 4 coats of white paint as the base paint. It was a damn tiring job as we left the site at around 6 in the evening.

We have decided to meet at PPOC at 8.30 in the morning. Ester and I will head to the PPOC first to work on painting the white paint on the wall that hasn't completely covered up, while Jonathan will go to buy the colour paint first. When we arrived at the classroom, we realised that some part of the wall can't be completely covered up even though that we have painted over 4 coats of white paint and we found that we have forgotten to paint the beam. So, Ester and I decided to separated work and start working on our part to increase the efficiency of work. The others reach PPOC later than usual and were told to mark out the design using pencil. After I am done with my painting, I decided to help them out by using the masking tape to tape over the lines than has been marked so that when we painted the coloured paint over it, it won't stained to other parts of the white wall. We start by painting from the lower part of the wall. However, the paint of a part of the wall wore off so we need to patch the wall and let it dry off before we can paint over it. Jonathan took over the responsibilities of patching it while others continue working on painting. The wall lamp has also decided to went off at this hour, so I have left with no choice but to went out and source for a new T5. Luckily we managed to get one from the shop outside and Oscar is kind enough to help us install it as we are not tall enough. We continued to work on it and I am glad that we managed to finished our work by 1.30pm.
Since we are done with all the painting, our team decided to start cleaning the floor that has been stained by the paint. Unfortunately, I am back at hometown due to some family matters so I am absent on that day. I was told that only Doris, Zhi Ying and Jonathan are present to help clean up the floor. They told us that it is quite hard to remove the stained paint on the floor as they need to put the thinner and brush it really hard to make sure it gets off cleanly. They updated us in the group throughout the process and was told that only less than a quarter of the floor were left to clean off.
Some of the team members said that they are heading over to clean off the leftover floor that hasn't been clean, while Jonathan also head off to purchase a clock for the classroom for Ikea.
4 October 2017
Jonathan received some Whatsapp messages from Miss Norji asking that why we weren't there to clean up the floor. However, as me, Zhi Ying, Doris, Ester and Jonathan weren't present on yesterday due to submission, we are unsure of the state of the classroom, as they didn't update us on the progress of their work.
6 October 2017
Jonathan, Ester and I head off the PPOC to wrap up some of the unfinished work after we finished our Design Proposition class at 1pm. Ester and I are in charge of cleaned off the skirting and floor that are still stained with the white paint. While the furniture group are kind enough to help us wiping the windows clean, hanging up the curtain and brushing some water for the final clean up as we are lack of helpers. A big applause of thank you Celine, Carmen, Oscar, Bing, Sean, Chris, Aaron and Min Wei etc for helping out. We also cleaned away all the rubbish and unwanted stuffs to the garbage bins at the back and cleaned the corridors of the classroom before we finally wrap off our parts of the jobs at the PPOC.
Here is a picture of me with my group members.
